SUBJECT: PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT MEMORANDUM
I found this Public Service Announcement (P.S.A.) to be quite an experience. I have grown accustomed to gathering ideas and putting them into words. This was obviously not the case for this assignment using a different type of media and technology. First I was unsure of what to specifically target for my P.S.A. Which sub-category do I choose? How do I get a very strong message across in such a short time? These were the questions I had the hardest time with.
I chose Puppy Mills as my topic. I started this whole project knowing least of this subject and grew more concerned the more I conducted my research. Those are the factors which lead me to choosing Puppy Mills as my topic. Also the audience had a huge role in how I presented the information. I wanted to appeal to the audience's emotions using Pathos. This I figured would be easiest through this topic because of how cruel and inhumane the whole process is.
The technology portion of the project was the most difficult as I am not nearly as proficient in Apple computers as I am with Windows based operating systems. Once I sat down and learned the program I felt I was able to quickly overcome those challenges, of course with the assistance of the workers at the Atlas Lab. I think the most effective aspect of the whole design for the project was that it was completely Pathos driven. Emotion is being drawn out from the first section of the film preparing the audience for graphic pictures. Already the audience is already on the edge of their seat, not wanting to see, but daring to pay attention. Using the black background with red letters to symbolize blood was a challenge. I was not able to choose the font I wanted because I wanted everything to be legible. The music was very dramatic. I feel the Piano and Violin combinations is one that is often over looked yet I was able to find a Song that blended well with what I was presenting for visual effects. I really enjoyed doing this project because I own a pet that was adopted. This project means a lot to me and I hope I touch the heart of the audience like this project touched my heart while making it.
